Now I have to deal with the lamb’s mother. I should have predicted this... She’s a bottle lamb from three years ago, and though she’s quite laissez faire about her lambs, she herself still very much thinks she has special bottle lamb to human relationship status. She knows I was the last one to see him, and she wants me to fix it. :/

She’s quite insistent about it.

I am both annoyed and feel like shit.

Video of baby Sue above, she’s the black one.

A parrot(?) huddling under a desk suddenly appears?

Nobody ever said you chose an easy life.  Sounds like the last 8-9 months have been somewhat unrewarding despite the progress made.

Oh yeah, that’s Lucky. She’s a Patagonian Conure, also known as the “burrowing parrot”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrowing_parrot

At this point I’m going to suspend interest in the funereal procession of griefs and ask what other uncommonly found on a farm animals are in your care?

Well we also have an Alexandrine Parakeet, Baby aka Buddy. Lucky is ostensibly Mrs. BoostAddict’s bird, but she likes me OK too, that’s fairly common as Patagonian Conures live in large flocks and keep lots of social connections.

Baby is *MY* bird, or in her view, I am *HER* human. Alexandrine females are known for both especially strong bonding and high levels of possessive bitchiness. The scars on Mrs. BoostAddict’s hands attest to that.

Other than that it’s just sheep, geese, chickens, and cats.

LOL, h ence the term “Alexandrine” or “defending men.”

At this point I expected more than another bird to be honest.

I had a little experience with a greater scarlet macaw and a lesser sulfur-crested cockatoo when I worked in a pet shop. That macaw would lure people in and then jump on their heads. I asked the owner why she didn’t build an enclosure for him. The bastard would scream non-stop if he was caged, even if it was the size of a room. He had to have direct access to humans to be satisfied, even if he was a mean bastard who was prone to biting.

The cockatoo was a sweet bird who just hated men for some reason. I decided to take him on as a project. By the time I was done, I was able to hold him and let him climb on my shoulder . Even so, I have scars from that bird.

P arrot beaks are no joke. Alexandrines actually have extremely strong jaw(beak) muscles and have nearly as high bite pressure as the big   m acaws, despite being much smaller. Some th ing like 400-500PSI. I know Baby can fold a beer bottle cap in half twice if she’s feeling industrio us.

You speak the truth. I never really trust birds. Having one sit  on your shoulder is an invitation to lose part of an ear.

Th at sucks, how is everything else holding up in the current situation? I’m guessing you don’t do business with those big processing plants that shutdown? I tried getting some lamb neck from my local farm butcher but they don’t sell it :(. I guess there isn’t much of a demand for lamb neck, but l et me tell you how good lamb neck potjiekos is.

We get regular requests for neck, and have started calling it out on our cut sheets. I think we may have one 1lb package left.

You are correct, we deal with small slaughter facilities, and even more specialized than that, as we are an Animal Welfare A pproved operation and in order to claim that on our meat, we must use facilities that a AWA as well. We’re currently almost sold out of 2019 lamb, and our first batch of 2020 is still two months out. We’re worr ied about the state of the local farmer’s markets, but we’ve actually been selling on line fairly well. Our local supermarket wholesale buyer has been silent lately, but we don;t have anything to sell them at the moment anyway...

Glad to here you’re doing well. I was able to get 2 cows tails so I’ll make do with that until the farm market near me switches to eCommerce. Their butcher regularly has lamb neck but with everything going on they’re hard to get on the phone as it’s always a busy signal.
